UPDATE JANUARY 2023: The BOC approved to initiate the EMS Department toward the end of 2022 and approved the hiring of part-time staff. As of January, we have three ambulances (used) in the process of being painted.

UPDATE 2022: The Mt. Juliet Fire Department decided after exhausting efforts with WEMA’s financial situation, to create a new city-funded EMS (ambulance) Department. The estimated startup cost of $1.9M was approved in the 22/23 Budget in June 2022. FDMJ has now hired Chief Eric Newman to head the new EMS Department. We are on a waiting list to acquire ambulances.

2nd MJ BOC Public Work Session November 8, 2021

On November 8th the MJ BOC held its 2nd public work session to discuss the future of ambulances inside the city limits. FDMJ presented options and referenced a submittal from a private ambulance service as an additional option. You can view the work session here. I will be meeting with some County Commissioners soon to further discuss keeping WEMA as MJ City’s primary ambulance service.

(WEMA) Public Discussion w/WC Mayor Hutto

You can listen (audio only) to the MJ BOC public meeting from Monday, August 30 at MJ City Hall with Wilson County Mayor Hutto. This meeting was to discuss looking at a compromise offer to keep ambulances in the MJ fire stations where they currently are housed which is E. Hill Street (behind City Hall) and Belinda Pkwy., instead of moving them to WC’s new facilities that will be located on Clemmons Road and Central Pike. Both are still inside city limits. I requested to have the meeting videoed but it wasn’t approved because it wasn’t the right kind of meeting that qualified under the city ordinance. I recorded the audio on my cell phone.

PowerPoint Presentation: The rest of the Board voted not to show the first and last slide of my PowerPoint presentation which was for educational purposes only, but I have the entire presentation for you to view here. The last slide was to be a starting point for discussing a compromise offer, but since it wasn’t allowed on the screen, I had to verbally read the list in order to start a discussion. However, there didn’t seem to be any interest. The Board did agree to have more meetings.
